Andrea Kimi Antonelli was born in Bologna, Italy on the 25th of August 2006, making him 20 years old as of today. I would like to take a look back at his best moments in Formula One so far to celebrate. However before I do that, I want to take a moment say buon compleanno (happy birthday) to Kimi.
Kimi made his Formula One Grand Prix debut at Melbourne in 2025. His qualifying did not go as planned and left him starting from the back of the field in 16th. Although this is not the qualifying result he was looking for in his first ever weekend as a Mercedes Formula One driver, he made up for it during the race on Sunday. A spectacular drive saw him go from the back of the grid all the way up to 4th place. He displayed amazing pace and overtaking ability, which was only a taste of what was to come. Not only did he show great ability, but out of the five rookies to start that race he was only one of two finishers and the only one to finish in the points that weekend.
In round six of 2025 in Miami, he shone in sprint qualifying by displaying his incredible pace once again. He claimed sprint pole, becoming the youngest pole sitter in any format in the series.

Furthermore in 2025 he claimed three podiums in his rookie season. His first came in Canada where he managed to finish third following the collision between the McLaren drivers who were lurking just behind him. He one upped himself 11 rounds later in Brazil where he claimed second place, his highest finish at the time. The closing stages of Interlagos saw him hold off a very keen Max Verstappen to take the position. His third podium came in Las Vegas the weekend after. He inherited third after the race following Lando Norris’s disqualification, however this podium result is impressive as in the race he charged from 17th to 4th.
On the podium in Canada and Brazil
Moving onto his second season, things have only improved for the now 20 year old. In China, the second round of the year, he claimed his first Grand Prix pole position and converted it into his first race win. This makes him the second youngest race winner behind only Max Verstappen and he is the youngest ever pole sitter for a Grand Prix. Furthermore he became the first Italian driver to win a Grand Prix for almost 20 years, the last being Giancarlo Fisichella at Malaysia in 2006.
On the top step of the podium following his Maiden Win in China
Next race out in Japan he set yet another Formula one record. He claimed pole once more and went on to win the Grand Prix. He became the youngest ever Formula One World Championship leader following this result. The fun did not stop as he secured pole and the win once again in Miami, becoming the only driver to convert his first three pole positions into wins (consecutively). Antonelli went on to win in Canada and Monaco too, meaning he claimed five consecutive race wins after his maiden win in China.
Other honourable mentions from his 2026 season include his dominant weekend in Belgium as he once again claimed pole and the win, picking up his sixth career victory. His performance in Hungary was also incredibly impressive. After picking up a grid penalty he started from 7th on the grid but finished 3rd. Hungaroring is a notoriously hard track to overtake on, sometimes being coined as ‘Monaco without the walls’. This drive really pushed his tire management abilities.
The great thing about Kimi turning 20 is that there is plenty more great moments like these to come and I can not wait to witness them. Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIMI, I hope you have a great day.
