F1 Contracts: Silly season is cancelled

Published on 25 August 2026 at 16:26

Silly season is over. Although there are 11 drivers still unconfirmed officially to have a seat in 2027, it is hard to see them moving anywhere now. Here’s the rundown on every drivers contract.

McLaren

Land Norris – ‘multi-year deal’ beyond 2026.

Before the 2024 season, Norris signed a contract extension with the team. No specifics are given but Lando confirmed his contract still has a few years left on it. Furthermore he does not seem to want to leave, his goal is to be with McLaren forever.

Oscar Piastri – ‘multi-year deal’ beyond 2026.

Ahead of 2025, Piastri also took similar steps as Norris. His previous contract kept him at McLaren until the end of 2026 so his extension may possibly keep him at the team until 2028. However, as of recently there is some speculation about his happiness at the team and his long-term future possibly being elsewhere.

Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton – 2027

An exact date was never officially released for the end of Hamilton’s contract, however earlier this year Lewis himself admitted he had a contract in place for 2027. For the start of 2025 he had been seeking a three-year deal at Mercedes but they refused to give it to him but it seems like Ferrari complied. Although there have been retirement rumours, Hamilton has been eager to dispel them. He claims he still plans to be here [in F1] for some time.

Charles Leclerc – 2028

Leclerc has been with the team since 2019 and signed yet another contract extension for the Maranello outfit before the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. It is not known exactly when the expiry date is, but most believe it is until 2028 or possibly extends beyond that. Either way, Charles Leclerc is not going anywhere. He lives to race in red.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen – 2030

Max Verstappen already had a contract until 2028, Red Bull confirming this all the way back in 2022. After heavy speculation that he might leave the team early due to exit clauses, Red Bull have once again announce a very long contract extension for the Dutchman. The four time world champion will stay at Red Bull until 2030.

Isack Hadjar – TBC

His current deal is only confirmed for 2026, however you’d imagine with how well he is performing he will be safe. Red Bull have not had much stability in their second seat over these past few years so logically the right choice would be to let Hadjar continue as he is finally delivering results for them alongside Max.

Mercedes

George Russell – beyond 2026

Russell had a new deal announced at the end of the 2025 season following some lengthy negations with the team, which were not helped by the speculation of Max potentially leaving Red Bull. Officially it was described as a deal taking him through at least 2026, but Russell has described it as a multi-year deal and will stay at Mercedes in 2027.

Kimi Antonelli – TBC

Kimi has only been given one year contracts since he started in F1. This makes sense for the team and Kimi as he is young and they need to make sure he can perform in the Mercedes before committing to anything too long-term. However, Kimi has absolutely been performing in 2026 and currently leads the championship by over 50 points. There have been no official announcements but it is hard to see him leaving Mercedes when they are in the position they are in together.

Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso – TBC

His current deal ends in 2026 and he says that his decision on his F1 future will come later in the year. This choice will likely be to continue at a struggling Aston Martin or officially retire. It is hard to predict what he is going to do at this moment in time as Aston Martin have recently brought some promising upgrades that might provide him with some motivation to continue in the sport now. This is one where we do just have to wait and see.

Lance Stroll – TBC

Stroll signed a contract in 2024 to keep him at Aston Martin until 2025 and beyond. There is a chance that extension takes him through 2027 as well but there has been no official confirmation of if Lance will stay. However, if his current contract does not take him into 2027, it is quite hard to not see him signing an extension considering he is team owner Lawrence Stroll’s son.

Alpine

Pierre Gasly – 2028

Gasly signed a multi-year agreement with Alpine in 2025 that has been confirmed to keep him locked at the team until at least the end of 2028.

Franco Colapinto – TBC

Franco manage to retain his seat after taking over from Doohan in 2025. No formal extension has been confirmed for Franco but once again it is hard to see him being replaced. His performances have improved as of recently and there is no clear replacement that would do a better job than him.

Haas

Esteban Ocon – TBC

Ocon has been at Haas from 2025 on a multi-year contract which will run until the end of 2026. It is likely he will remain at Haas in 2027, however it is a bit unclear if he is guaranteed the seat. There have also been some rumours that Haas are not happy with his performance and may be looking for a change, but both Ocon and team principal Ayao Komatsu have denied this.

Oliver Bearman – TBC

Bearman has a very similar situation to Ocon. He signed a multi-year deal in 2025. The exact duration has not been revealed so it is uncertain if he remains at has for 2027 on his current contract. However, it is almost certain he will remain at Haas in 2027.

Racing Bulls

Liam Lawson – TBC

His seat is only confirmed for the current season, and after his stint at Red Bull last season he has to prove he’s worth it if he wants to remain in the Red Bull family beyond 2026. His season so far is going well so once again I think it is highly unlikely Racing Bulls will not renew his contract.

Arvid Lindblad – TBC

He joined the grid this season and so was only given a one year deal. However, you would be shocked to see him leaving the Red Bull family so soon so it is likely he has a seat for next year.

Williams

Carlos Sainz – Multi-year deal for 2027 and beyond.

Despite Williams delivering lacklustre results, Carlos Sainz has opted to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. Realistically speaking, he does not have many other options.

Alex Albon – 2027

Alex signed a one year contract with Williams in the summer break. This is odd for Albon as he has been with Williams for a long time and you would think he’d opt for a long term contract. Is he looking to move away from the team who have been unable to deliver him better machinery?

Audi

Nico Hulkenberg – TBC

He joined Sauber back in 2025 on a multi-year contract. It is believed he has options which may allow him to remain with Audi beyond this season but as of right now nothing has been confirmed.

Gabriel Bortoleto – TBC

Like Hulkenberg, he joined the team before the transition into Audi on a multi-year deal. His place in 2027 has not officially been confirmed but he has been talking about his future being at the team so it is unlikely he does not renew.

Cadillac

Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas – 2027

I clumped these two together because they have the same deal. They both returned to being full time drivers on the grid after a stint away, Perez completely out of F1 and Bottas as Mercedes 2025 reserve driver. The both joined Cadillac on a multi-year deal for their debut season in the sport and they will carry this stable pairing into next year as well.
