Championship leader Freddie Slater takes pole position ahead of De Palo and Lacorte as title rival Ugochukwu has a disater.
Due to the need for a slipstream around Monza and some of the silly moments that have occurred here in the past as drivers bustle around trying to get into the right spot, qualifying here has been split into group A and group B. Group A consists of cars with even numbers and group B consists of cars with odd numbers. The session for each group is also shorter so the drivers really only get one chance at a good qualifying lap.
Before qualifying took place, championship contender Ugo Ugochukwu was handed a 5 place grid penalty for the sprint race and the feature race following a collision in practice with Trident driver De Palo.
Group A went first. The top three were De Palo, Le and Kato. Championship contender Ugo Ugochukwu did himself no favours as he missed the apex in turn one, which caused him to run wide into turn two and hit the gravel. As a result he only managed to qualify in tenth in his group. The field came onto the circuit with four and a half minutes left.
Several drivers managed to get a second lap in. Yamakoshi did but did not improve. The top three of De Palo, Kato and Le all did a second lap and improved massively.
Group B followed. The top three for group B were Freddie Slater, Lacorte and Rivera. They all went out on track at the start of the session but came back into the pits following an instillation lap. They did not leave again until there were three minutes to go. None of them got a second lap in as a result. Nael did not get a lap time due to an error at turn one.
Therefore, after combining the groups, the top 12 for the feature race on Sunday will be:
- Slater
- De Palo
- Lacorte
- Le
- Rivera
- Kato
- Giusti
- Yamakoshi
- Colnaghi
- Barrichello
- Clerot
- Taponen
