The Formula 3 Championship returns to action following a month of no racing. The drivers will be heading to Monza for the 4-6th of September and then to Madrid on the 11-13th of September to close the season.

As things stand, Freddie Slater of Trident leads the drivers championship on 130 points as Ugo Ugochukwu of Campos trails with 122 points. Ugo’s teammate Théophile Nael sits in third with 75 points. In terms of the team standings, Campos racing are dominating on 269 points ahead of Trident with 196 points.

The final two rounds of the season could be interesting as Slater and Ugochukwu battle it out for the title. They have remained very close all season so it is incredibly hard to predict which one of them will be taking the glory come the final race in Madrid. Ugo is in his second season of F3 however Freddie is competing in his first full season after stepping in two rounds last year and claiming a podium on his debut at the Sakhir Sprint Race.

Monza will consist of a sprint race and a feature race, whereas the final round in Madrid will host a sprint race and two feature races. This means there are still plenty of points up for grabs.

Monza is always a fun weekend in Formula 3. There are usually qualifying antics where the drivers refuse to head out for a flying lap first in the closing stages of qualifying as they all want to pick up a slipstream instead of leading the pack. This has led to some silly moments where none of the drivers can really get a good final lap in because they were holding each other up for so long. Outside of silliness, Monza delivers great racing as there are plenty of overtaking opportunities for the drivers to show off.

Madrid is set to be an interesting weekend as the track is completely new so we have no idea what to expect from the racing there. The F3 test in Madrid over the past weeks saw 19 red flags so there is the potential for it to be a very chaotic and challenging weekend for the drivers if their many issues persist when they finally go racing there.

One other thing to look out for is the introduction of Alex Powell to the grid following Louis Sharpe leaving PREMA for the rest of the season due to financial difficulties and being unable to fund being in F3 anymore. Alex Powell is a promising American-Jamaican driver who has competed in Italian F4 and finished as a runner up in the UAE F4 season last year.
