Ferrari have unveiled a special livery and matching race suits to mark the 30-year anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s debut at the Italian team.
Michael taking his first Ferrari win at the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix
Schumacher won five of his seven titles with Ferrari and took 72 of his victories at the team.
He joined Ferrari after leaving Benneton in 1996. He was already a 2 time world champion at this point. Following 10 years at Ferrari and 5 more titles, he announced his first retirement from F1 following his penultimate victory for the team at the Italian Grand Prix in 2006.
The cars Ferrari will use at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix used by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be predominantly red in true Ferrari fashion. There will be hints of gold on the wheels to pay homage to the all-gold wheel design of the 1996 car. Furthermore, Schumacher’s logo is on the car as well as seven stars representing his titles sit on the nose of the car.
The race suits are designed to tie in with the look of the car, displaying the seven stars and Michael’s logo too.
Three of Schumacher’s former Ferrari cars will also complete demonstration laps of Monza over the weekend. These include the F310 (1996), the F2002 (2002), and the 248 F1 (2006).
Sebastian Vettel is set to drive the F2002 on its demo lap around the track. Vettel regards Schumacher as his hero and followed in his footsteps when he made his surprise switch to Ferrari as reigning world champion back in 2015. The F2002 will also be given a run by Rubens Barrichello, Shumacher’s old teammate. Barrichello won the 2002 Italian Grand Prix and led Schumacher home to a Ferrari 1-2, so the opportunity for him to drive his old Ferrari to honour Michael will also be special.
