The FIA Formula 2 championship have announced that Round 12 of the 2026 season will have an additional Qualifying session and Feature Race.
The weekend will take place at Baku City Circuit from the 24-26 September. Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO explained that this supersized weekend would happen because F2 is the only supporting event for this weekends Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. By adding more sessions, they can increase the level of entertainment for the attending fans that have paid to be there.
In the announcement, they say that the final two rounds of the season will still take place at Qatar and Abu Dhabi and will both have the regular F2 format. However with the conflict still affecting the middle east, many fans think this additional race is an indication that one or both of those races will not go ahead. This would not be a shock as both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian were cancelled earlier on in the season due to the geopolitical climate in the region. The Bahrain Grand Prix has however been rescheduled and will take place in Malaysia at Sepang.
