All the cars went out at the start of the session instantly in an attempt to get an important banker lap in, however no one got to actually set a lap as there were two separate incidents immediately.
The first incident was a yellow flag caused by Sebastian Montoya as he lost the rears at turn 11 and made contact with the wall going into turn 12. A Red Flag was called almost instantly after as Kush Maini spins and hits the wall on his flying lap. He completely wrecked his suspension and could not resume. Montoya limped his PREMA back to the pitlane but he has a lot of damage to his rear tire suspension.
The drivers went back out when the track was clear and most of them got in banker laps before the second Red Flag of the session was shown. Nico Verrone caused the flag as he hit the wall in turn 19 and wrecked his car. This was good news for Montoya as the PREMA mechanics managed to fix his car and sent him back out for the restart. Unfortunately for Montoya, during his out lap he reported over the radio that he lost drive so he had to come back to the pits and retire from the session anyway.
Once the tack went green again drivers like Dunne and Beganovic were flying. John Bennett set the fastest sector one of the session but lost the rear in turn 11 and hit the wall, much like Montoya. Bennett, though, had much more damage and a third Red Flag was thrown out. Thankfully he climbed out of his TRIDENT. The timing of the incident affected Nikola Tsolov, who was on a fast lap on fresh soft tires meaning he had taken some life out of his new set.
When the track went green again, all drivers immediately went out as they had only around five minutes left in the session. Beganovic once again put in an incredible lap time, which basically solidified his pole position. Dunne managed P2 and Camara kept it out of the wall through the final corner to get P3. Tsolov, the championship leader, managed to get 5th. Gabriele Mini did not have a great qualifying for this stage of the championship battle, only managing 14th on a track were qualifying position seems crucial as overtaking looks to be difficult.
Herta was on a very good looking lap, setting one of the fastest sector one’s of the entire session, but unfortunately his lap came to an abrupt end when he spun into a tank slapper at turn 19. He should retain 12th as a Red Flag was not officially thrown on track but his Hitech car is definitely very damaged.
