Câmara claims his 5th pole position of the season ahead of Invicta teammate Dürksen and Dunne.
Câmara claims his 5th Pole position of the season
On the first runs where the drivers were desperate to get a banker lap in, Dunne went first however he ran wide out of Ascari putting him out of sync with the rest of the grid in the opening stages of qualifying. He managed to return to the pits where his mechanics made some adjustments before going back out and claiming 4th for the time being.
After their first runs all drivers returned to the pits. They then left with 6 minutes of the session remaining. No one wanted to start their flying lap first and as time was winding down Boya, who was leading the pack, was crawling down to the Parabolica hoping someone would pass. The cars were almost at a standstill until Bilinski bit the bullet and charged to the front to start his flying lap. The rest of the pack followed along swiftly to try and pick up a slipstream.
Câmara was one of the last to cross the line and he did not improve on his second lap however his banker lap was good enough for pole position anyway. His teammate Dürksen claimed P2 to make it an Invicta 1-2 on Sunday. Alex Dunne followed in third with Leon and Stenshorne in fourth and fifth. The championship leader, Nikola Tsolov, qualified sixth.
It was not a good day for Gabriele Mini, the Italian who sits in second in the championship. He qualified down in P11.
A turn 11 incident was noted by race control as the drivers started their final flying laps. It is not exactly clear what has been noted but by watching onboards, Alex Dunne seemed to be going a lot slower than the others. I do not know if he did anything penalty worthy but it Is something to keep an eye on considering the Irishman qualified in third.
